Our visit will take you to discover the picturesque village of Panicale through the itinerary of textile art and embroidery that made the small Umbrian town, overlooking the Trasimeno, a point of reference for lovers of embroidery.
We will visit the tulle museum accompanied by the voice of the women who still today hand down the art of embroidery on Tulle the “Ars Panicalensis” born in Panicale in the first half of the 1900s at the behest of Anita Belleschi Grifoni.
An educated and refined woman, Anita founded the embroidery school in the thirties of the twentieth century which soon became famous in all the noble families and the upper middle class of the time, to the point of being appreciated by the royal house.
We will then observe the paintings by Perugino and other Renaissance masters in which, among the drapery of precious silk and brocade fabrics, one can note the presence of “alla perugina” fabrics, whose fortune was such that they were reproduced by many of the greatest artists of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, often together with other fabrics of great value, almost always of silk, intended to embellish churches or the luxurious robes of prelates and sovereigns.
