The medieval “tovaglie perugine” (the medieval tablecloths of Perugia) and the art of weaving
Our journey will lead us to discover the ancient textile tradition of Perugia which has its roots in medieval times.
We will start from the so-called “major art” production, that of the fresco, which will lead us to discover a little-known place in our city and rarely open to the public, the convent of Poor Clare nuns of Sant’Agnese in which the great painter of the Italian Renaissance, Pietro Vannucci , known as Perugino, left his masterpiece the Virgin of graces and saints.
A short distance away we will arrive at the Giuditta Brozzetti textile laboratory. Here, Marta, the great-granddaughter of Giuditta, who still hands down the art of medieval weaving, will guide us in her workshop and give us a demo of her textile production.
