The stories of illustrious women who lived in Perugia and in the Lake Trasimeno between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century are numerous, but those of Romeyne Robert, Giuditta Brozzetti and Vittoria Aganoor Pompili are undoubtedly among the most fascinating and exemplary.

Romeyne and Giuditta, pioneering textile entrepreneurs, and Vittoria, a poetess of national fame, were linked by a strong bond of love to the city of Perugia and its territory, so much so that they decided to give life to their most daring enterprises here.

Our visit will take you along the streets of textile art in a city itinerary that from Porta Sole to Porta Sant’Angelo will allow you to rediscover the places where these women lived and started their business activities.

We will rediscover the story of the American Romeyne Robert, a cultured and cosmopolitan young woman, married to the Marquis Ruggero Ranieri di Sorbello, who at the beginning of the 1900s founded an embroidery school known by the name “Ranieri di Sorbello embroidery school”.
A few years later, in 1921, Giuditta Brozzetti, another courageous and open-minded woman, as well as a profound entrepreneurial spirit, gave life to a textile company recovering the ancient Perugian textile tradition, still carried on today by her great-granddaughter Marta Cucchia.

Finally, we will recall the story of the poet Vittoria Aganoor Pompili who, with her poems, written between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, crowned one of the most overwhelming love stories of the Belle Époque.
